About the disease
Stroke, also known as a cerebrovascular accident (CVA), occurs when the blood supply to the brain’s large and/or small arteries is interrupted or severely reduced, depriving brain tissue of oxygen and nutrients. Strokes can be caused either by a clot obstructing blood flow to the brain (ischemic stroke) or by a ruptured blood vessel that prevents blood flow to the brain (hemorrhagic stroke).
